Military
Systems' simulators are in use for equipment and procedural training,
evaluation of tactical options
and for other applications. They all include targets of one sort or another
but there is no commonly agreed way to define the data-sets that represent
targets. This is particularly true for models requiring low-levels of
abstraction. Having
a standard to define the data that would represent a target in the visual,
IR, radar, RF and acoustic bands in a consistent way would be helpful
to the simulation community. A
proposal for this has been tabled and is structured around a format that
embraces existing high-level representations (the speculative
suggestion is available). It is sufficiently focussed to accommodate
detailed implementation. It is intended that the definition will be such
that simulators and other applications that can read data in this format
would be able to accept a data set for any target. A Target Data Standard
working group was formed on 7th June (organised by David
Murray - The RTDC) with a view to exploring the formats that have
the widest possible acceptance in the community. The meetings schedule
and key points are listed in a Meetings Summaries document. A
summary of the current status of the debate in each band is included in
the Meetings
Summaries for Visual; Radar; IR; RF; Acoustic. We are fortunate to have the support of the following organisations, many at senior level. All
suggestions and contributions to the discussion will be welcomed, a DISCUSSION
FORUM is available to stimulate the debate. |
