Signature and Feature Recording

In some applications it is not necessary to store all of the information available in the data streams presented by sensors. An example would be magnetic anomaly detection used for detecting potential areas of metal failure in large structures. Only information from the problem areas may be required, together with their precise locations.

This allows the total amount of recorded data to be reduced, simplifying analysis, as well as reducing the cost of recording media and storage. Some features added to the acquisition and recording system are necessary to support this, and anomaly or signature detection electronics or software in the recording path have been provided for our products to support this activity.

This can be considered to be a reorganisation of system processes to optimise a generic system for a particular application. Many of our applications include these features for signature detection, feature detection and similar semi-intelligent recording decision making.

Artisan, our product for high-speed capture and recording includes many features found in logic analysers to support this. They include pre and post signature/feature recording so that the full context of the event can be viewed during replay time. The equipment is controlled from a graphical user interface (GUI) to allow complex tasks to be undertaken in a natural way.
