Landmine Detection
Obviously
a dangerous activity, and one that often requires a large area of terrain
to be covered with low risk of failure, this is an area where research
is being carried out into optimising the process.
The resolution needed for mine detection requires a high resolution radar
return. This dictates high capture speeds that a recorder based on RAID
technology meets very well. A StoreFast recorder also allows random access
to recorded information that is useful during processing it also supports
archive back-up so that the records can be reviewed or processed in alternative
ways. A mix of sensors can be combined and recorded simultaneously so
that (for example) chemical sensors can be used alongside radar, sonar
or magnetic sensors.

A range
of recorders can be used according to the environment, the time of recording
as well as data rates. User interfaces are custom built for applications
to provide a 'natural-feel' for operators allowing them to work in an
efficient way with the range of sensor equipment that is being evaluated.
The recordings can be replayed to stimulate processing equipment in a
laboratory, allowing subsequent trials to be undertaken with good confidence
that progress has been made in the system and sub-system designs.
