Format Conversion
Our
data storage products, including disc-based, tape-based and solid state
options all have data formatting facilities in the data paths.
The systems are computer configurable and the recording and replay paths
can be separated and individually configured by operator commands from
a control console.
This allows data to be recorded in one logical format and replayed in
another. For example, frames and sync codes can be inserted or modified;
timing information can be used to regenerate accurate waveform streams.

Separation of the recording and replay paths also allows electrical format
convertors to be inserted, Ampex DCRsi and Sony DIR electrical interfaces
are examples of tape recorder data interchange options. Fibre-optic and
FPDP are examples of current physical format interchange options that
our products support and are available.
An example of these features in use is for an establishment that specialises
in data analysis from many sources, our products allow one central recording
system with a standard format that accepts many input types, converts
electrical and logical formats during recording. It also allows data to
be recovered to any of the supported input formats, independently of the
original source.
